Montgomery Gentry was founded when Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry joined forces and signed to Nashville’s Columbia Records in 1999. Both men had previously been members of a number of different bands, and had performed together prior to Montgomery Gentry, but after coming together to form the band and releasing their debut “Hillbilly Shoes,” found themselves rising quickly to the top of the charts and achieving instant success. Montgomery Gentry’s top twenty debut launched the debut album Tattoos & Scars, which also spawned the hit singles “Daddy Won’t Sell the Farm,” “Lonely and Gone,” “All Night Long,” and “Self Made Man.”
Tattoos & Scars brought Montgomery Gentry to the forefront of country music at the turn of the millennium, earning the group the Country Music Association’s Vocal Duo of the Year Award, the Academy of Country Music Award for Favorite New Artist, and the American Music Award for Favorite New Country Artist. The band’s debut eventually certified platinum and since that time, Montgomery Gentry has given audiences a string of hit albums and singles, including: Carrying On (2001), My Town (2002), You Do Your Thing (2004), Some People Change (2006), Back When I Knew It All (2008), Rebels on the Run (2011), “Something to be Proud Of,” “If You Ever Stop Loving Me,” “Lucky Man,” “Roll With Me,” “Gone,” and “Back When I Knew It All.”
So far, Montgomery Gentry’s southern rock style has earned them multiple number one hits and an induction into the Grand Ole Opry in 2009. Montgomery Gentry continues to perform and record, and recently released Friends and Family, and extended play album, in 2012.
