Patty Loveless was born in 1957 in Pikeville, Kentucky. Patty was barely a teenager when she became enamored with country music. Inspired by her older sister, who was already pursuing a career in the business, Patty began performing in clubs around Kentucky, and eventually started a small band with her brother. After her high school graduation, Patty Loveless married and began performing with her husband in North Carolina, but the marriage was short lived and the endeavor to garner attention proved fruitless, and so Patty set her sights on Nashville.
In Nashville, Patty recorded her first demo, which caught the eye of MCA Nashville, and Loveless signed her first recording contract. The song “I Did” was released in 1986, followed by a debut album, Patty Loveless. Although the album and it’s additional singles (“After All” and “Wicked Ways”) did not perform very well, Patty garnered enough airplay to boost the potential of her second album, If My Heart Had Windows. The song “A Little Bit of Love” hit the country top ten, and Patty earned a key spot as a supporting act for other performers such as George Strait and Reba McEntire. Loveless’s third endeavor, Honky Tonk Angel, finally brought her the recognition she’d been seeking, spawning multiple top ten hits with two number ones: “The Lonely Side of Love,” “Chains,” “Don’t Toss Us Away,” and “Timber, I’m Falling in Love.”
Since that time, Patty Loveless has given audiences the albums: On Down the Line (1990), Up Against My Heart (1991), Only What I Feel (1993), When Fallen Angles Fly (1994), The Trouble with the Truth (1996), and Long Stretch of Lonesome (1997.) Loveless has earned awards from the Academy of Country Music (for Top Female Vocalist, 1996 and 1997); the Country Music Association Awards (for Album of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year, 1995 and 1996); and an American Music Award for Favorite New Country Artist in 1989. Patty Loveless has brought more than forty singles to the top of the country charts and four of her albums have reached platinum status. Although she does not tour frequently these days, Patty Loveless continues to perform at the Grand Ole Opry occasionally.
