Blackhawk was established in the early 1990’s as a county music/rock group. Founding members Dave Robbins, Van Stephenson, and Henry Paul had all performed or written for or with many other bands, including Restless Heart and Outlaws, prior to establishing Blackhawk and signing to Arista Records in 1993. Blackhawk’s debut single, “Goodbye Says It All,” rose to the top of the country charts in 1994, bolstering the success of Blackhawk’s debut album, which was released shortly thereafter.
Blackhawk, the band’s self-titled debut, spawned the additional singles: “I Sure Can Smell the Rain,” “Every Once in a While,” “That’s Just About Right,” and “Down in Flames.” Following the success of their debut, Blackhawk released another four albums: Strong Enough (1995), Love & Gravity (1997), The Sky’s the Limit (1998), and Spirit Dancer (2002), before taking a decade-long hiatus. The albums spawned the top 40 singles “I’m Not Strong Enough to Say No,” “Like There Ain’t No Yesterday,” “Almost a Memory Now,” “Big Guitar,” “Hole in My Heart,” “Postmarked Birmingham,” “There You Have It,” “Your Own Little Corner of My Heart,” “I Need You All the Time,” and “Days of America.”
Although Van Stephenson left Blackhawk around the turn of the millennium, the band continues to perform and record today with the lineup of Paul, Robbins, and Randy Threet. Blackhawk most recently released the album Down Form the Mountain (2011.)
