Lonestar was established in the mid 1990’s, originally as the band Texassee. Original members John Rich, Dean Sams, Richie McDonald, Keech Rainwater, and Michael Britt all originated from the state of Texas, thus the group’s original name, but by 1993 they were already performing under the name Lonestar. Lonestar signed with BNA Records two years later, and the group’s debut, Lonestar Live, an extended play, spawned their first top ten country single, “Tequila Talkin’.”
The debut album, Lonestar, arrived shortly after in the same year, and gave audiences multiple hit singles as well: “No News,” “Runnin’ Away with My Heart,” “When Cowboy’s Didn’t Dance,” and “Heartbroke Every Day.” Additional hit albums followed, including: Crazy Nights (1997), Lonely Grill (1999), This Christmas Time (2000), I’m Already There (2001), From There to Here: Greatest Hits (2003), Let’s Be Us Again (2004), Coming Home (2005), Mountains (2006), and Party Heard Around the World (2010.) The albums produced the hit singles: “Come Cryin’ to Me,” “Everything’s Changed,” “Smile,” “What About Now,” “Tell Her,” “I’m Already There,” “Not a Day Goes By,” “My Front Porch Looking In,” “Let’s Be Us Again,” “Mr. Mom,” and their smash crossover hit, “Amazed,” which hit the number one spot on both the Billboard Hot 100 and also the country charts.
In total, three of Lonestar’s albums went platinum or higher, and Billboard’s Year End has recognized them as the band with the top country songs for both 1999 and 2003 (the former for “Amazed,” the latter for “My Front Porch Looking In.”) Despite changes to their lineup, Lonestar continues to perform together, and recently released Life as We Know It in 2013. The first two singles off the album are “The Countdown” and “Maybe Someday.”
