Thomas Rhett was born Thomas Rhett Akins, Jr. in 1990, son of country music singer Rhett Akins. Rhett Akins had developed his own career as a performer throughout young Thomas’s formative years, and so it’s no surprise that Thomas would follow in his father’s footsteps upon entering adulthood.
Thomas Rhett released his debut single, “Something to Do with My Hands,” in 2012, but like his father he had been writing music for other musicians before that. After penning the hit “I Ain’t Ready to Quit” for Jason Aldean, Big Machine Records took notice of his talents and signed Rhett to his own recording contract in 2011. Following “Something to Do with My Hands,” Rhett released “Beer with Jesus” and then “It Goes Like This,” both of which also rose into the top of the country charts. Thomas Rhett’s debut album, It Goes Like This, was equally successful upon its release in 2013, spawning the additional single “Get Me Some of That.”
Thomas Rhett’s career as a performer is just getting started, although he has also penned some other hits for other artists in the past year, including “Round Here” for Florida Georgia Line, “Parking Lot Party” for Lee Brice, and “1994” for Jason Aldean. Rhett continues to perform and record and has plans for his next album release within the next year.
