Iggy Azalea Biography

The singer and model known as Iggy Azalea was born Amethyst Amelia Kelly in 1990 in New South Wales. Iggy fell in love with music, initially with rap, as a teenager and at the age of sixteen she made a huge leap, dropping out of school and moving to the United States to pursue a career as a music artist. Azalea settled in Los Angeles in 2010 and began posting videos of her performances on YouTube. The videos, often highly risqué and controversial, went viral quickly, and garnered the attention of a number of industry managers.

Iggy Azalea’s debut, the mixtape Ignorant Art, was released in 2011, and she signed with Grand Hustle Records. The mixtape was followed by her official debut, Glory, in 2012, featuring the singles “Work,” “Bounce,” and “Change Your Life.” Despite a rather sparse body of work, the debut and songs earned Iggy Azalea a number of industry recognitions, including nominations for: Best Web-Born Artist (O Music Awards); Artist to Watch (MTV Video Music Awards); Best Push and Best Australian Act (MTV Europe Music Awards); and Best Entertainer, Best Female Artist, Best Live Act, Best Song, and Best Video (at World Music Awards.)
