The American singer and actress known as Fergie was born Stacy Ann Ferugson in 1975. Fergie grew up in the Hacienda Heights area of California where, as a teenager, she was an outstanding student academically and also very active her in school community as a cheerleader. Fergie’s first foray into entertainment was as a member of the children’s television series Kids Incorporated. It was here that her natural talents began to shine and she determined to become a performer professionally.
As a young child, Fergie provided some voice over work for cartoons before joining the all-female group Wild Orchid. The group signed a recording contract with RCA Records and released a self-titled debut in 1997. A second album, Oxygen, followed in 1998, but Fergie left the group to join The Black Eyed Peas a few years later. At the time, the band was already established, but musician will.i.am was impressed with Fergie’s talents and invited her to provide some vocals for the song “Shut Up” as a tryout. The group instantly agreed that Fergie would be a welcome addition to the group, and the rest—as they say—is history.
The Black Eyed Peas released some of the most popular and iconic music of the new millennium, starting with the number one album Elephunk (2003) and it’s number one hits “Where Is the Love?” and “Shut Up.” The top ten hits “Let’s Get it Started” and “Hey Mama” also contributed to the album’s success. The Black Eyed Pease also released the albums Monkey Business (2005), The E.N.D. (2009), and The Beginning (2010), giving audiences the additional hits: “Don’t Phunk with My Heart,” “Don’t Lie,” “My Humps,” “Boom Boom Pow,” “Meet Me Halfway,” “The Time (Dirty Bit),” “Just Can’t Get Enough,” and the international number one hit “I Gotta Feeling.”
While still performing and recording with The Black Eyed Peas, and under the production guidance of will.i.am, Fergie recorded the album The Dutchess (2006), which went on to become an international multi-platinum hit. Fergie also continued an acting career, appearing in the films: Poseidon (2006), Planet Terror (2007), and Nine (2009.) She also voiced characters in Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa (2008) and Marmaduke (2010.)
Fergie recently left the Black Eyed Peas in 2018, but not before earning multiple American Music Awards (for Favorite Pop/Rock Band/Duo/Group) and eight Grammy Awards for various singles, including “Let’s Get it Started,” “Don’t Phunk with My Heart,” “My Humps,” and “I Gotta Feeling. Fergie’s latest solo release, the album Double Dutchess, arrived in 2017. The album features the singles “L.A. Love,” and “M.I.L.F.$”
