Jacob Taio Cruz’s career actually began in songwriting. He was signed to a publishing deal when he was only nineteen, and in 2004 Cruz co-wrote Will Young’s “Your Game,” which earned a 2005 Brit Award for Best British Single.
Taio Cruz debuted as his own solo artist in 2006 with “I Just Wanna Know,” which hit the charts and earned him a deal with Island Records. His debut album, Departure, was released in 2008, and featured “She’s Like a Star,” and “ I Can Be.”
In the meantime, Taio Cruz co-wrote songs not only for his next album, but also for JLS, Cheryl Crow, and Tinchy Stryder, penning hits such as “Keep You,” “Stand Up,” “Take Me Back,” and “Never Leave You.”
Rockstarr was released in 2009, and “Break Your Heart” hit the charts again. When the album was re-released in the following year, the single was also re-released and charted at number one in the United States and other countries. In 2011, Taio Cruz premiered “Telling the World,” which was written for the film Rio.
TY.O is Cruz’s next album, and he continues to write, record, and plan for future releases.
