American actor and singer-songwriter Joe McIntyre was born in 1972 in Needham, Massachusetts. Joey rose to fame first as the youngest member of the hit boy-band New Kids on the Block in the 1990’s. But long before he joined the group in his early teens, Joey frequently appeared on the stage in various community theater productions, and initially harbored aspirations to become an actor.
McIntyre joined New Kids on the Block at the young age of twelve, and he remained with the group for their successful run during the 1990’s. The group rose to become the most successful “boy band” in music history, eclipsing even the success of Michael Jackson for a few years and giving fans such classic hits as:
After the group disbanded in 1994, Joe McIntyre began to pursue a recording contract as a solo artist, but he also returned to his acting roots, appearing in the film The Fantasticks, based on the off-Broadway play. At the same time, Joey McIntyre self-released his solo album, Stay the Same, marketing its distribution through his own website. The success of the album and its title track led to a deal with Sony Music USA in 1999, and the album was re-released on the company’s Work Records label. Stay the Same sold more than a million copies internationally and reached into the top ten on the singles charts.
Since that time, Joe McIntyre has also released the albums Meet Joe Mac (2001), One Too Many: Live from New York (2002), Talk to Me (2006), and Here We Go Again (2009.) The albums have spawned the singles: “I Love You Came Too Late,” “I Cried,” “Rain,” and “Here We Got Again.”
In 2008, New Kids on the Block announced a reunion, releasing the long-awaited single “Summertime” in the spring of that year. The reunion album, The Block, followed, as did an international reunion tour. A few years later, NKOTB also teamed up with the Backstreet Boys to launch another tour in 2011, much to the delight of nostalgic fans around the globe eager to see the beloved boy bands perform together.
Joe McIntyre’s acting career has also taken off in recent years. In 2002, McIntyre could be seen as a regular on the hit television series Boston Public, and he recently joined the cast of the television sitcom The McCarthys. On stage, Joe appeared in the role of Fiyero in the musical Wicked, and also as Fonzie in the LA-based run of the play inspired by the television show Happy Days. Most recently, he appeared in the stage production of The Kid, in 2013.
