Normani is an American singer and dancer born Normani Kordel Hamilton in 1996. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia, but was raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, before moving to Houston, Texas after Hurricane Katrina. Normani was involved with dance and gymnastics since the age of 3 and often performed gospel music in her spare time. Her first song was recorded at age 13. In 2012, she competed on The X-Factor in the show’s second season but was eliminated in the second round. However, she rejoined the show and was placed into a group with four other girls. The group, named Fifth Harmony, would later take third place in the show.
In 2013 the group would release their debut EP Better Together. Their debut album would release in 2015, entitled Reflection. Another album released the following year entitled 7/27 and generated two hit singles: “Worth It” and “Work from Home.” During 2015 Normani released a series of dance videos on her Youtube channel. Over the next two years, she covered songs from other artists ranging from Drake to Solange with the production duo The Invaders. She also placed third in Dancing with the Stars in 2017. That year Fifth Harmony would release a self-titled album, which excluded former member Camila Cabello. In 2018 the group took a hiatus to focus on solo projects, which saw Normani drop her first official single as a solo artist with fellow singer Khalid, called “Love Lies.” The song peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was featured in the film Love, Simon. She was featured on tracks with Jessie Reyez and Quavo before collaborating with producer Calvin Harris for a two-track EP.
When apart of Fifth Harmony, the group had two albums certified Platinum, and numerous charting singles. Among them were “Worth It” with rapper Kid Ink that chartered #12 on the Hot 100 charts, and “Work from Home” with singer Ty Dolla Sign which peaked at #4. The tacks were certified triple Platinum and quintuple Platinum. There were three more Gold records and three more Platinum records. For her solo career, “Love Lies” with Khalid went quadruple Platinum.
In 2019, Normani experienced great success from her single with Sam Smith “Dancing with a Stranger,” which peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and went double Platinum. She joined Ariana Grande on her Sweetener World Tour and released her first solo single “Motivation” in August. Her debut solo album is due out in 2020.
