The Australian singer, actor, and danger Cody Simpson was born in 1997 on the Gold Coast of the Queensland area. Simpson began writing and recording his own songs in the late 2000’s, posting videos of his homespun performances to YouTube. Most of these were covers of hit songs such as Justin Timberlake’s “Cry Me a River” and Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours”; the covers were so well-done that they eventually garnered the interest of Atlantic Records.
After signing with the label, Simpson moved to Los Angeles and entered the studio to prepare his debut EP. The result was 4U, which arrived late in 2010 and paved the way for Cody’s next EP, Coast to Coast, which arrived in the year following. Next came the debut full-length album, Paradise, which spawned the singles “Wish U Were Here” (featuring Becky G) and “Got Me Good,” and then Surfer’s Paradise in 2013, which featured the singles “Pretty Brown Eyes,” “Summertime of Our Lives,” “Surfboard,” and “La Da Dee.”
Simpson’s music garnered him some commercial success and acclaim, including award nominations from the Kids Choice Awards, Radio Disney Music Awards, Teen Choice Awards, and World Music Awards. But in recent years Cody Simpson has also branched out into television, appearing on a number of reality shows, including Figure It Out, Cupcake Wars, and even Dancing with the Stars, where he competed for the show’s 18th season. Most recently, Cody Simpson appeared in his first acting roles on the shows “Instant Mom,” “Ridiculousness,” and “Cougar Town.”
Although Cody Simpson appears to have plans to continue acting on television and perhaps in film going forward, he continues to perform and record his music. His most recent album, Free, arrived in 2015.
