Cuban-American singer and songwriter Camila Cabello was born Karla Camila Cabello Estrabao in 1997 in Habana del Este, Cuba. Cabello rose to prominence as one of the members of the “girl group” Fifth Harmony, and in late 2016 announced her departure farom the group to pursue a solo career.
But long before her rise to fame, Camila spent her early life moving between Mexico City and Havana, until at the age of five she immigrated to Miami, Florida with her family. In 2012, Camila auditioned for the X Factor and was selected alongside four other female contestants to form the group Fifth Harmony, signing with Epic Records via Simon Cowell’s Syco Music. After finishing the competition in third place, Cabello and Fifth Harmony released a debut EP, Better Together (2013), followed by the albums Reflection (2015) and 7/27 (2016.)
Camila Cabello launched her solo career in 2015, while still with Fifth Harmony; her debut song, “I Know What You Did Last Summer” - a duet with Shawn Mendes – rose into the top twenty on the mainstream charts and reached platinum status. Another single, “Bad Things,” featuring Machine Gun Kelly followed, and then “Love Incredible” (featuring DJ Cashmere Cat), arrived in February of 2017.
Camila Cabello is scheduled to release her debut solo album, The Hurting. The Healing. The Loving, in the fall of 2017. Cabello performed the album’s first single, “Crying in the Club,” in May of 2017 at the Billboard Music Awards. The single was released shortly thereafter.
