Christina Judith Perri was born in 1986. Growing up in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, Perri had musical influences in the family; her brother, Nick, has played guitar with Shinedown, Perry Farrell (Jane’s Addiction), and Matt Sorum (Velvet Revolver.)
A self-taught guitarist, Christina Perri moved to Los Angeles on her twenty-first birthday with the hopes of breaking into the music business. She supported herself with waitressing jobs but spent her evenings writing and recording.
Christina Perri’s big breakthrough came in the summer of 2010, when her single “Jar of Hearts” was featured on So You Think You Can Dance. Immediately following the performance, the single went on to sell 48,000 digital copies, landing on the Billboard charts at impressive numbers. Within a month, the total sales spiraled to over 100,000 copies.
Invitations to include the single on other television shows followed, as well as a lives performance by Perri on The Early Show, The Tonight Show, and Conan. The success of the single led to Christina Perri’s deal with Atlantic Records.
Christina Perri’s debut album, lovestrong, was released in May of 2011. Once again, Christina Perri found her music utilized on a variety of TV spots, including The Bold and the Beautiful and Discovery’s Disappeared, after the album’s first single, “Arms,” was released.
