Saweetie is an American emcee and performer born in 1994. She was born in Santa Clara, California, and was raised in the Bay Area. In her teenage years, she would experiment with music and attended the University of Southern California while keeping up her music career by posting to platforms like Instagram and Soundcloud. Saweetie’s debut single, “Icy Girl,” would lead to a deal with Warner in 2017.
A music video was released for the song later that year and blew up the song even further. Saweetie continued to get looks on social media for her snippets before releasing her debut EP, High Maintenance, in 2018. The following year she would release her second EP, Icy, which would see her single “My Type” gain great commercial success thanks to social media. The app TikTok would soon become another platform of choice for Saweetie, and in 2020 it helped push her single “Tap In.”
Saweetie’s two projects would peak at #32 and #50 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart, with the latter peaking at #85 on the Billboard 200. “Icy Girl” would be certified Platinum and peak at #16 on the Rhythmic chart while “My Type” would be certified double-Platinum and earn Saweetie her first Billboard Hot 100 placement, peaking at #21. “Tap In” peaked at #31 on the Hot 100 and reached #8 on the Rhythmic chart.
Saweetie recently released a remix to “Tap In” with rappers Jack Harlow, DaBaby, and Post Malone. She is currently working on her debut album, Pretty B*tch Music.
