The DJ and producer Matthew Dear was born in 1979 in Texas, but moved to Detroit as a teenager, where he fell in love with the burgeoning techno scene of the city. Matt began recording and releasing his own music in the late 1990’s, including his early hit “Mouth to Mouth,” before releasing his first album, Leave Luck to Heaven, in 2003.
Leave Luck to Heaven featured the song “Dog Days,” which became a pop/techno favorite, and set the stage for Matt Dear’s follow-up albums: Backstroke (2004), Asa Breed (2007), and Black City (2010.) Dear also released a series of EPs and the compilation Beginning of the End: Spectral Sound Singles (2008.) Notable remixes from Matt Dear also include: “We Will Become Silhouettes” (The Postal Service); “Do It Again” (The Chemical Brothers); “I’m a Man” (Black Strobe); “Park It In the Shade” (Sasha); “Don’t You Evah” (Spoon); “Happy House” (The Juan MacLean); “Time of the Assassins” (Charlotte Gainsbourg); and “Me and the Moon” (The Drums.)
