Moderat Biography
The electronic music group known as Moderat was founded in 2009 by the members of two currently existing groups – Sascha Ring (or Apparat), and Modeselektor. Gernot Bronsert, Sebastian Szary and Sacha Ring met for the first time in 2002 when all three were already well-established in the Berlin music scene. Sascha Ring had already released a debut album and Modeselektor was working on their next EP, and both groups were highly regarded and critically acclaimed.
Despite the challenges of two already established and highly active groups coming together to embark on yet a third project, the individual members found themselves drawn to the opportunity to work together, and Moderat was born with its debut album, Auf Kosten der Gesundheit, in 2002.
Four other albums and EPs form Moderat have since followed – Moderat (2009), Rusty Nails (2009), Seamonkey (2009), and most recently, Moderat II (2013.) With Moderat’s debut in 2009, the group immediately began to receive significant praise from both critics and fans alike, receiving the #1 Live Act of the Year Award from the electronic music magazine Resident Advisor. Since their auspicious start, the group has toured extensively throughout Europe and Moderat has plans for live dates in Northern America for the near future.
