The English dance music duo known as Orbital was founded in the late 1980’s by brothers Paul and Phil Hartnoll. Orbital rose to fame with the release of the smash hit “Chime,” in 1989, which led to a career that thrived initially until about 2004.
Between 1989 and 2004, Orbital released the albums Orbital (1991), Orbital 2 (1993), Snivilisation (1994), In Sides (1996), the Middle of Nowhere (1999), the Altogether (2001), Octane (2003), and Blue Album (2004.) Notable hits from these albums, all of which rose to the top forty on the UK dance charts, include: “Are We Here?,” “The Box,” “Satan Live,” “The Saint,” “Style,” “Funny Break (One is Enough),” and “One Perfect Sunrise.” In 2004, Orbital performed their final series of concerts at festivals that summer, including the Glastonbury Festival and the Oxegen Festival, before announcing their split.
Although both Paul and Phil continued to work in the industry, writing and recording their own music, the brothers eventually announced a reunion in 2008. In recent years, Orbital has released a number of collections of their previous hits before releasing the new album Wonky in 2012, featuring the “Don’t Stop Me” and “the New France EP.” The duo headlined the Big Chill in 2009, and recently completed an extensive tour throughout Europe. Orbital is now back together again, with plans for additional new music and performances in the coming years.
