DJ Roger Sanchez was born in 1967 and grew up in New York City. Sanchez’s initially had as his goal a career in architecture, but he’d begun DJ-ing while attending the High School of Art and Design, and had fallen in love with music. With the support and encouragement of his parents, Roger decided to see if he could make it as a DJ first, and so he began performing around the city’s various nightclubs. The rest, as they say, is history.
Roger Sanchez quickly rose to fame as one of the era’s most significant DJs, beginning his annual summer residencies in Ibiza in 2000 and performing at clubs around the world the rest of the year. In 2002, Sanchez founded his own record label, Stealth Records, which serves as an outlet through which he releases his compilation albums. Notable remixes from Sanchez include: “Don’t Stop ‘Til you Get Enough” (Michael Jackson); “The Best Things in Life Are Free” ( Janet Jackson and Luther Vandross); “Love Will Never Do (Without You)” ( Janet Jackson); “Revolution 909” ( Daft Punk); “Black Velveteen” (Lenny Kravitz); “Cherry Lips” (Garbage); “Butterflyz” (Alicia Keys); “Hella Good” (No Doubt); “Get Together” (Madonna); “Perfect” ( Depeche Mode); “Give a Little More” ( Maroon 5); and “Last Days of Disco” (Robbie Williams.)
Roger Sanchez is among the few DJs to have garnered Grammy Award recognition, with a win for Best Remixed Recording in 2003, for No Doubt’s “Hella Good.” Sanchez currently ranks on DJ Magazine’s list of Top 100 DJ’s, with a ranking that rose to the number twenty-five spot in recent years.
