The American R&B musician known as Ultra Nate was born in 1968 in Maryland. Ultra Nate rose to fame in the 1990’s for a series of dance covers, most notably for a cover of the Gordon Lightfoot classic “If You Could Read My Mind,” which rose into the top five on the dance music charts and also into the top 100 on the Billboard mainstream charts.
Ultra Nate arrived on the music scene with the debut album Blue Notes in the Basement in 1991, shortly after signing with the British division of Warner Bros. Records. The album spawned the singles “Is It Love,” “Deeper Love (Missing You),” and “It’s Over Now.” The album was followed by: One Woman’s Insanity (1994), Situation: Critical (1998), Stranger Than Fiction (2001), Grime, Slick & Thunder (2007), and Hero Worship (2013.) Additional notable singles from Ultra Nate include: “Show Me,” “How Long,” “Free,” “Found a Cure,” “Pressure,” “Desire,” “Twisted,” “Brass in Pocket,” “Love’s the Only Drug,” “Automatic,” and “Turn It Up.”
Ultra Nate’s popularity has remained steady with the dance and club crowds in both the United States and in Britain. Most recently, in 2014 Ultra Nate began a residency in Ibiza, at Café Ole at Space, where she delights the island’s vacation goers with live performances of her classic hits.
