The soul quartet known as Hiatus Kaiyote was established in Australia in 2011. Founded in Melbourne by members Perrin Moss, Simon Mavin, Paul Bender, and Nai Palm, Hiatus Kaiyote burst onto the mainstream music scene with their hit song “Nakamarra,” which earned them a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Performance in 2013.
Previous to that, Hiatus Kaiyote had released the debut album Tawk Tomahawk in 2012, which earned critical praise not only from the mainstream, but also notable acclaim from such artists as Erykah Badu and Q-Tip, the latter of which would go on to collaborate with Hiatus Kaiyote on “Nakamarra.”
Hiatus Kaiyote recently signed with Flying Buddha, the label launched by producer Salaam Remi. The band’s sophomore album, Choose Your Weapon, arrived in 2015 and again earned Hiatus Kaiyote a second Grammy nominations for Best R&B Performance, for the song “Breathing Underwater.”
