Crystal Waters Biography

Singer songwriter Crystal Waters was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1964. Before Crystal rose to fame as one of the era’s most significant house music performers, she grew up in a household filled with music. Her parents were noted jazz musicians and performers who appears in a number of musicals, and so it was a bit of a surprise when Waters initially attended Howard University as a computer science major. But by the late 1980’s, Crystal returned to her early roots in music, writing demo music and garnering her first contract as a writer for Mercury Records.

Crystal Waters wrote a number of hits over the course of the next decade, and released her own albums: Surprise (1991), Storyteller (1994), and Crystal Waters (1997.) The albums featured a number of hits, including: “Makin’ Happy,” “Gypsy Woman (She’s Homeless),” and “100% Pure Love.” During this time, Waters also garnered a number of industry award nominations, including three American Music Award nominations for “Gypsy Woman” and an MTV Video Music Award for “100% Pure Love.”

In recent years, Crystal Waters has toured extensively, performing in such far away places as Egypt and Russia. Her recent releases, such as “Destination Calabria,” “Never Enough,” and “Dancefloor” have risen to the top of the charts on the dance charts, and “Oh, Mama, Hey” reached the number on spot on Billboard’s Dance/Club charts.
