William “Bill” Engvall was born in 1957 in Texas. Despite original aspirations to enter the field of education, Bill found himself leaving college early and doing a variety of jobs instead. He also spent his evenings dabbling in open mic opportunities at comedy clubs around Dallas. His love of comedy and early indications of talent encouraged him to move to California in 1990, where he landed a job hosting A Pair of Jokers and appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman. His recognition as Best Male Standup at the American Comedy Awards in 1992 finally solidified his career path.
For the next two decades, Bill Engvall appeared on a number of television shows, including Delta and the Jeff Foxworthy Show, and watched one of his eight albums, Here’s Your Sign, reach platinum status. His Bill Collar Comedy Tour, alongside Jeff Foxworthy, Larry the Cable Guy, and Ron White, began its run at the start of the new millennium and lasted for six years. Its enormous success resulted in a number of movies and even a television show, Blue Collar TV.
Bill Engvall began hosting the show Lingo in the summer of 2011, and says that he enjoys the game show as much as his friend Foxworthy enjoys hosting Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? Engvall continues to perform stand-up and has plans for future collaborations with his fellow comedians in the future.
