Kathleen Madigan was born in 1965 in St. Louis, Missouri. Madigan earned her B.A. in Journalism from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, and then after graduation initially began working for a variety of journals and newspapers in the St. Louis area. Around the same time, Kathleen began experimenting with stand-up, performing at open-mic opportunities around town, and within two years she’d settled on a new career path.
As a comedian, Kathleen Madigan has appeared in a number of television shows, including her own HBO and Comedy Central Presents specials. She has been seen on Last comic Standing, I Love the ‘80s 3-D, I Love the 90s: Part Deux, and of course all the major late night talk shows, including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Show with David Letterman, the Bob and Tom Show, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, and Blue Collar Comedy.
Kathleen Madigan’s CDs and DVDs of her stand-up have been wildly successful. They include: Kathleen Madigan (1998), Live (2000), Shallow Happy Thoughts for the Soul (2002), In Other Words (2006), and Gone Madigan (2011.) Madigan was recognized in 1996 with an American Comedy Award for Funniest Female Stand-up Comic.
