Bruce Bruce was born in 1965 and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. Although he is often associated with Popeye’s Chicken & Biscuits as their spokesman, Bruce has also hosted BET’s ComicView and performed stand-up for a number of television shows and comedy specials.
Bruce’s big break occurred while still performing stand-up around town in Atlanta; when the BET series Coast to Coast came to seek new and fresh talent, Bruce auditioned at every opportunity available and appeared on the show three times. HBO’s Def Comedy Jam followed in 1993, and then an appearance on Showtime at the Apollo in 1994. A request for a repeat performance led to regular gigs with BET, and eventually led to Bruce’s own Comedy Central Presents special.
Bruce’s trademark characters, including “Lime Pimp” and “Dewayne,” can be seen in a variety of films, such as: The Wash (2001), Hair Show (2004), Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector (2005), Idlewild (2006), Who’s Your Caddy? (2007), and most recently, Think Like a Man (2012.) Bruce Bruce has participated in a number of comedy festivals, including his 2008 headlining performance at the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival In Montreal, the Laffapalooza Festivals in Atlanta, and the US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen. He also appeared in Top Five (2014) and on an episode of the show Maron (2015.)
In addition to his achievements in comedy, Bruce Bruce has also published his first book, Baby James Brown, which reveals his childhood experiences infused with his trademark comedic touch. He is also an avid car aficionado, with an impressive personal collection.
