The American actor and comedian Cameron Esposito was born in 1981 in Illinois. Today, Cameron is best known for her stand-up comedy and her show, Take My Wife, but long before she rose to become one of the era’s most notable LGBTQ comedians, Esposito spent her formative years excelling academically and athletically at Benet Academy. Initially, Cameron intended to become a social working, majoring in English and theology while attending Boston College. But after graduation, her professional plans to a different turn.
Esposito returned to Chicago where she began performing stand-up in local area venues. As her following increased, Cameron branched out to perform at a number of different comedy festivals, including SF Sketchfest and SXSW. After making her small-screen debut in 2013 on the Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Esposito launched her most ambitious endeavor up to that point—a series of web videos with BuzzFeed Motion Pictures, titled “As a Lesbian.” The series was a hit, leading to regular appearances on Chelsea Lately and then finally, the launch of her hit television series, Take My Wife, which was picked up by the Starz network in 2018.
Today, Cameron Esposito continues to appear on the series and perform stand-up. She has also appeared in the films First Girl I Loved (2016), Mother’s Day (2016), and The Hero (2017.) She has also released multiple albums, including Back to Back (2017) and Rape Jokes (2018), recorded during her standup special about sexual assault told from a survivor’s perspective. Proceeds from the album benefit the country’s largest anti-sexual violence organization, RAINN.
