Mason’s career as a comedian began first began with stand-up in hotels and other venues, and by the 1960’s, Jackie was performing on the Ed Sullivan Show. He very quickly brought his act to Broadway as a “one-man show” format, and his debut – The World According to Me – was a smash success. During this time he released his first two albums, I’m the Greatest Comedian in the World, Only Nobody Knows it Yet! (1962) and I Want to Leave You with the Words of a Great Comedian (1963.) For the remainder of the decade and into the next, Jackie Mason enjoyed a career focusing predominantly on life stand-up, but by the late 1970’s, he was ready to branch out into film and additional television. Mason’s talents can be seen in the films The Jerk (1979), Caddyshack II (1988), and Chicken Soup (1989), and the television specials The World According to Me! (1988), An Audience with Jackie Mason (1990), Jackie Mason on Campus (1992), and Jackie Mason at the London Palladium (1996.)
