Broad City Biography
Broad City Biography
The American comedy troupe, web series, and television series known as Broad City was established in the mid 2000’s, by founding members and stars Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson. The two women with their independently produced web series which launched in 2009; it wasn’t long before Comedy Central took notice and turned the online forum into a highly successful show.
Bolstered by enthusiasm from comedy veteran Amy Poehler, Broad City launched on the Comedy Central network in 2014. The series follows two Jewish American women (Jacobson and Glazer) living in New York City as they navigate professional and personal challenges through comedic stereotypes. Supporting and recurring cast members include Hannibal Buress, Paul W. Downs, John Gemberling, Arturo Castro, Stephen Schneider, Chris Gethard, Nicole Drespel, Eliot Glazer, Susie Essman, and Bob Balaban.
Broad City has been met with critical acclaim, earning the show multiple award nominations, including Critics Choice Television Award nominations (for Best Comedy Series and Best Actress in a Comedy Series) and an MTV Movie & TV Awards nomination for Best Comedic Performance. Broad City currently aired its fourth season in September of 2017; the show has also been renewed for its fifth season by the network.
