Brad Garrett was born in 1960 in Woodland Hills, California. After attending the University of California at Los Angeles for a short period of time, Brad opted to leave traditional education so that he might pursue a career in acting and comedy. The gamble paid off.
Brad began performing around in comedy clubs in the Los Angeles area in the early 1980’s. He won the television competition Star Search in 1984, and soon thereafter found himself performing stand-up on the Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. At the time, Garrett was among the youngest to ever perform on the show, but he was well received, and he began accepting roles on small television shows in the hopes of launching a bigger career. Some of his earliest roles include voicing Hulk Hogan on Hulk Hogan’s Rock ‘n Wrestling, voicing a character on Suicide Kings, and appeared on a number of game shows, including Hollywood Squares and Super Password. An appearance in the short-lived show First Impressions followed in 1988, but his big break was about to come via comedian Ray Romano.
Brad Garrett landed the role of Roman’s brother, Robert Barone, on the hit series Everybody Loves Raymond, and quickly became a recognizable household name. Brad’s trademark deep voice has brought him to innumerous additional roles voicing believed characters on a variety of television shows and in film, including: the Spooktacular New Adventures of Casper, the Mighty Ducks: The Animated Series, Project Gekker, Toonsylvania, A Bug’s Life, Finding Nemo, and Ratatouille. In addition, Brad Garrett has appeared on Broadway in Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple, he recently opened Brad Garrett’s Comedy Club in Vegas, at the Tropicana Resort and Casino, and launched the 2011 children’s show, I Kid with Brad Garrett.
Brad Garrett has been the recipient of a number of awards for his achievements, including five Emmy nominations and three wins for his role on Everybody Loves Raymond. He has also earned a 2003 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries of Movie for his role in Gleason, and he and his castmates earned the Screen Actors Guild Award in 2003 for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.
