The American actress and comedian Loni Love was born in 1971 in Michigan. Love grew up in the housing projects of Detroit, facing the challenges of an underprivileged upbringing. After leaving high school, her first job was on the assembly line with General Motors in the early 1990’s, a gig which inadvertently set the stage for her to enter the entertainment industry as a comedian.
As it turned out, Love’s experiences in the automotive industry led to her pursuit of a degree in electrical engineering. However, during her time studying at the university for what she thought would become her career, she also began to study music and theater, ultimately planting the seeds for what would become her career. While still a student at Prairie View A&M University in Texas, Loni Love began performing stand-up comedy routines, winning competitions, establishing a local fan base, and perfecting her talents.
Within a few year, Love had become a frequent face on stage at the Laugh Factory and, in 2006, she entered the Star Search competition. Loni Love rose to become one of the show’s runner-ups and earned a spot on Comedy Central’s list of “Top Ten Comics to Watch.” The achievement placed Loni Love in high demand, and since that time, she has appeared as a frequent guest on After Lately; as co-host of D.L. Hughley Breaks the News; and in various roles on the big screen, including: Bad Asses (2014), Gunshot Straight (2014), Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 (2015), and Bad Asses on the Bayou (2015.)
Most recently, Loni Love appeared as Kimberly in the film Mother’s Day, released in 2016. Love can currently be seen as one of the regular hoses on the television talk show The Real, along with fellow hosts Adrienne Bailon, Tamar Braxton, Tamera Mowry, and Jeannie Mai.
