American comedian and musician Reggie Watts was born in 1972 in Stuttgart, Germany, while his father was serving as an officer in the United States Air Force. Reggie spent his formative years growing up in Montana, after his family relocated to the Great Falls area following two tours in Germany and Spain. As a child, Watts learned to play a number of instruments, including the violin and piano, and his talents were evident from an early age.
After finishing high school, Reggie Watts moved to Washington state, attending the Art Institute of Seattle and then later Cornish College of the Arts. During his time in Seattle, he joined a number of bands, crossing genres frequently, and in 1996 he joined the soul/hip-hop band Maktub as its front man. Watts remained with the band until launching a solo career in the mid 2000’s, with his debut single, “So Beautiful.” Around the same time, his musical performances began to feature comedic elements, and he began performing short comedy bits and posting them on various online forums.
Since that time, Reggie Watts has become as well-known for his comedic performances and sketches as he is for his music. In 2010, his one-hour comedy special, “Why Shit So Crazy?” aired on the Comedy Central network and became a smash hit. A second special, Reggie Watts: A “Live” in Central Park, followed in 2012, and later that year Watts began appearing on the series Comedy Bang! Bang! alongside fellow comedian Scott Aukerman.
Today, Reggie Watts is best known for his role as bandleader for The Late Late Show with James Corden, a role which presents a perfect marriage for his musical and comedic talents and a perfect match for the show’s approach and style. Watts plans to remain with the show indefinitely, although he also continues to share his own music and comedy in performances throughout the country year round.
