American actress Vanessa Bayer was born in 1981 in Ohio. Long before Bayer rose to prominence as a Saturday Night Live cast member, she grew up in the Cleveland area of the state, where she faced serious challenges as a teenager; while battling leukemia at the age of fifteen, Vanessa found solace in comedy, although upon entering the University of Pennsylvania after graduation she initially pursued studies in communication.
While in college, Vanessa Bayer interned on a number of different television shows, including Late Night with Conan O’Brien. It was here that Bayer began to entertain the notion of pursue a career in comedy, and so she joined the Second City comedy troupe. As with many SNL cast members, her Second City performances led to an offer to join the show, and so Bayer did so in 2010. Beyer’s performances on Saturday Night Live earned her a Primetime Emmy Award nomination and Rolling Stone’s praise as the show’s “secret weapon.”
Vanessa Bayer made her big screen debut in the film Trainwreck in 2015, and followed that performance with roles in Office Christmas Party and Carrie Pilby, both in 2016. A comedic artist still on the rise and one to watch in the coming years, Bayer recently left SNL to pursue other comedic projects, including some upcoming roles in film features.
