American actress, writer, and comedian Ali Wong was born Alexandra Wong in 1982. Wong grew up in San Francisco’s Pacific Heights neighborhood, where she excelled academically and socially in high school. While studying at the UCLA in pursuit of a degree in Asian American Studies, she began performing with the school’s LCC Theater Company, where a life-long love of theater and comedy developed. After graduation, Ali moved to New York City and began performing stand-up, earning a nod as one of Variety’s “10 Comics to Watch” in 2011.
Today, Wong is best known for her film roles and her Netflix stand-up specials. But the road to prominence began with dozens of smaller parts on television shows such as Breaking In (2011), Black Box (2014), Inside Amy Schumer (2014), Fresh Off the Boat (2017), and voice-over roles in films such as The Angry Birds Movie (2016.) Wong also appears as a series regular on the show American Housewife, first appearing in the role of Doris in 2016.
Most recently, Ali Wong enjoyed a big breakthrough in Always Be My Maybe, for which she also served as writer and producer. She also appeared as the voice of Bertie for ten episodes of the series Tuca & Bertie, and in the film Birds of Prey, scheduled for release in 2020.
