American comedian and actor Gary Owen was born in 1974 in Ohio, but didn’t always aspire to become a performer. Growing up in Cincinnati, Owen graduated from high school and decided to enter the armed forces, serving as a Master-At-Arms in the United States Navy for six years. During this time, he became well known for entertaining his fellow servicemen with stand-up style humor.
Eventually Owen took that humor to the stage, earning the title “Funniest Serviceman in America” and pursuing a career in stand-up after completing his last tour of duty. His big break came on the stand-up showcase Comic View, which aired on BET in 1997. Since that time, Gary has grown to become one of the most recognizable comics in America, appearing in films such as: Daddy Day Care (2003), Rebound (2005), House of Payne (2009), Think Like a Man (2012), Ride Along (2014), and Meet the Blacks (2016.)
Today, Gary Owen can be seen regularly on the BET series The Gary Owen Show, a reality comedy series which follows his culturally blended family (including his wife Kenya; son Emilio; son Austin; and daughter Kennedy.) He also continues to perform stand-up regularly, and can be seen on a number of comedy specials on various television networks.
