The American singer and songwriter known as Stevie B was born Steven Bernard Hill in 1958 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Long before he became the “King of Freestyle,” Stevie B grew up in south Florida working a series of menial jobs before rising to recognition for his music talents. After years of struggling to make ends meet, Stevie B released his debut LP, Party Your Body, in 1987. The title track became a smash hit, eventually rising to gold status and setting the stage for a legacy which has endured into the new millennium.
Stevie B followed Party Your Body with the additional top forty hits “In My Eyes” and “I Wanna Be the One,” before releasing his next album, Love & Emotion. Stevie’s sophomore effort was even more successful. On the strength of the single “Because I Love You,” which rose to the number one spot on the mainstream charts, the album surpassed the sales of Party Your Body and solidified Stevie B’s career as a musician. For most of the decade following, Stevie B’s music was a staple of dance clubs and parties across the nation and even internationally.
Throughout the 90’s and beyond, Stevie B released a series of successful albums, most notably: Healing (1992), Funky Melody (1994), It’s So Good (2001), and The Terminator (2009.) The albums gave audiences the additional top forty hits: “I Wanna Be the One,” “In My Eyes,” “Love & Emotion,” “I’ll Be By Your Side,” “Funky Melody,” and “Dream About You.” Stevie B just released his latest album, The King of Hearts, in 2014. He continues to perform and record, and has additional projects slated for the coming years.
