The rapper and actress known as Becky G was born Rebbeca Marie Gomez in 1997 in California. Becky G burst onto the music scene in 2012, after a number of self-promoted songs posted to YouTube began to garner her attention. Prior to that, Becky had grown up in the Los Angeles area doing commercials and voice-overs as a young child until she began performing in various girl bands.
In 2011, Becky began posting her own videos to a YouTube channel, including a cover of the Kanye West song “Otis.” The videos eventually caught the attention of Sony Music Entertainment, which signed Becky G to its label in 2012. Since that time, Becky G has released the EP Play It Again, featuring gthe singles: “Becky from the Block,” “Play it Again,” “Can’t Get Enough,” and “Shower,” which rose into the top twenty on the mainstream charts in the Untied States and alos charted internationally, in Australia, Canada, and Germany.
Becky G has also been featured on a number of songs by other artists, including: “Wish You Were Here” ( Cody Simpson); “Die Young” (Kesha and Wiz Kahlifa); “Oath” ( Cher Lloyd); and “Quiero Bailar” (3Ball MTY.) Becky G is a star on the rise, and one to watch. Her much anticipated debut album is expected in the next year or two, and in the meantime she continues to perform and record.
