The rock music trio known as Highly Suspect was established in 2009 by founding members Johnny Stevens, Ryan Meyer, and Rich Meyer. All three men met while still in high school, and they began their journey as musicians playing covers of classic hits in various bars and clubs in the Cape Cod area of Massachusetts.
Highly Suspect eventually moved to Brooklyn, where they made plans to write and record a debut EP. The Gang Lion EP arrived in 2010, and was followed by a self-titled full-length album in 2011. Both were moderately successful, but it was the band’s second EP, The Worst Humans, that began to garner a bit more buzz for Highly Suspect. The EP spawned the singles “The Go,” “Gumshoe,” and “Bath Salts,” which would go on to become some of their most popular singles. But the group’s next album, Mister Asylum, would prove to be the big breakthrough for Highly Suspect, spawning the hit rock single “Lydia” and earning the group two Grammy Award nominations, for Best Rock Album and Best Rock Song.
Highly Suspect is a band on the rise and definitely one to watch in the coming years. The group most recently toured the United States performing at such high profile festivals as Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, and SXSW.
