The band Umphrey’s McGee was established in 1997, by founding members Mike Mirro, Joel Cummins, Ryan Stasik, and Brendan Bayliss. The band became known for both their cover songs and original material, and became a frequent favorite on the jam-band circuit. A devoted following to their live performances resulted in the release of Greatest Hits Vol. III, which was actually Umphrey’s McGee’s debut album, released in 1998.
Umphrey’s McGee entered the new millennium with an extensive live schedule performance and the release of the band’s first studio album, Local Band Does OK (2002.) A performance at the Bonnaroo Music Festival that year resulted in an ever-expanding fan base, and CD sales which exceeded that of any other artist that performed that year. The band also experienced some changes to the lineup that year, but ever since the lineup has remained as Bayliss, Cummings, Stasik, Andy Farag, Jake Cinninger, and Kris Myers.
Since that time, Umphrey’s McGee has released the albums Anchor Drops (2004), Safety in Numbers (2006), The Bottom Half (2007), Mantis (2009), and Death by Stereo (2011.) The band has been a consistent favorite at live festival performances in recent years, and sales of live DVD performances are just as successful as album sales. Most recently, Umphrey’s McGee released the Live at Red Rocks DVD (2012.)
