Fall Out Boy originated in 2001 in Wilmette, Illinois. The rock band was established when Joe Trohman and Pete Wentz, who had already been playing together in other bands around the Chicago area, decided to begin their own group. With the addition of Patrick Stump, who was still in high school, and Ben Rose, the initial lineup of Fall Out Boy was established. Fall Out Boy began playing around at local clubs as part of the indie rock scene, and by 2003, the band had released Fall Out Boy’s Evening Out with Your Girlfriend, their first LP.
Fall Out Boy eventually caught the attention of Fueled by Ramen, an indie label, which signed them before releasing their sophomore effort, Take This to Your Grave. The album perked the interest of Island Records, and after jumping on board with the new label, Fall Out Boy began performing nationwide, often in support of bands such as Blink-182, Less Than Jake, and Taking Back Sunday. In part due to the strength of the singles “Sugar, We’re Goin Down” and “Dance, Dance,” Take This to Your Grave eventually reached gold status and paved the way for the follow-up album From Under the Cork Tree, which not only reached into the top ten on the album charts, but also earned Fall Out Boy a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist in 2006.
Following the success of From Under the Cork Tree, Fall Out Boy released the additional albums Infinity on High (2007) and Folie a Deux (2008), bringing audiences the chart-topping singles: “This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race,” “Thnks fr th Mmrs,” “Beat It,” “I Don’t Car,” and “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up.)” Most recently, Fall Out Boy released the album Save Rock and Roll in 2013, and the band continues to perform and record with the current lineup of Stump, Wentz, Trohman, and Andy Hurley on drums.
