The punk pop band Plain White T’s was established by Chicago friends Ken Fletcher, Tom Higgenson, and Dave Tirio when the three were still in high school. In the late 1990’s, Plain White T’s began performing locally around town, mainly in clubs and bars, and after recruiting additional members and experiencing some changes to their lineup, the band self-released the album Come On Over in 2000. Come On Over was followed by Stop in 2002, which began to garner Plain White T’s some attention from record labels.
The band signed with Fearless Records and launched an extensive tour which would span four years, but their breakthrough was just around the corner. In 2005, Plain White T’s released the album All That We Needed, featuring the single “Hey There Delilah.” The song was an instant smash hit, rising to the number on spot on the charts and staying in the top ten multiple weeks. The song earned Plain White T’s multiple Grammy nominations and brought them to the forefront of mainstream music.
Since then, Plain White T’s has released Every Second Counts (2006), Big Bad World (2008), and Wonders of the Younger (2010), and Should’ve Gone to Bed (2013), featuring the songs “Our Time Now,” “1,2,3,4,” “Rhythm of Love,” and “Should’ve Gone to Bed.” Plain White T’s has had its music featured on the television shows Greek, Secrets of New York, 90210, Parenthood, One Tree Hill, and Secret Life of the American Teenager. In addition to the band’s Grammy nomination for “Hey There Delilah,” Plain White T’s has also received nominations for Best New Artist from the American Music Awards and a Teen Choice Award win for “Hey There Delilah” in 2007.
Plain White T’s continues to tour, perform, and record with the current lineup of Higgenson, Tirio, Tim Lopez, Mike Retondo, and De’Mar Hamilton. The band currently has plans for another studio release coming soon, and upcoming tours.
