The American rock band Yellowcard was established in 1997 in Jacksonville, Florida, by founding members Longineu Parsons, Warren Cooke, Ben Harper, Todd Clary, and Ben Dobson. Between 1997 and 2001, Yellowcard released three albums – Midget Tossing (1997), Where We Stand (1999), and One for the Kids (2001) – to moderate success, but the group’s real breakthrough came with the single “Ocean Avenue,” the title track from their fourth album.
“Ocean Avenue” was a smash hit for Yellowcard, rising to the top of the mainstream charts and bringing the album, Ocean Avenue, with it. The album went on to sell over a million copies in the United States alone, and spawned the additional hit “Only One.” Before moving on to another album, Yellowcard provided songs for a variety of film soundtracks, including the song “Gifts and Curses” for the Spider-Man 2.
Ocean Avenue was followed by the albums: Lights and Sounds (2006), Paper Walls (2007), When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes (2011), Southern Air (2012), and Lift a Sail (2014.) Additional hit singles from Yellowcard include: “Lights and Sounds,” “Rough Landing, Holly,” “Light Up the Sky,” “For You, and Your Denial.”
Although Yellowcard has experienced some changes to its original lineup, the group continues to perform and record with current members: Tyan Key, Ryan Mendez, Josh Portman, and Sean Mackin, who provides the group’s unique sound through the incorporation of the violin. Yellowcard recently toured with New Found Glory before entering the studio again to prepare for their next album, scheduled for release in 2016.
