The American guitarist and multi-instrumentalist known as Buckethead was born Brian Patrick Carroll in 1969. Carroll grew up in Southern California, where he learned to play guitar in his young teens. By the time he was in his early twenties, he had created his “Buckethead” persona, for which he wears a KFC bucket on his head and a plain, white, “Michael Myers” style mask, inspired by the Halloween film franchise.
The oddness of Buckethead’s presentation belies the artists true talent; Carroll is among the most talented, innovative, and hard-working guitarists of his generation. So far, Buckethead has appeared on nearly three hundred albums, most of them his own, but many of them on which he is featured as a guest artist. Whether funk, progressive, ambient, bluegrass, or nearly any other category, Buckethead has earned critical acclaim for his contributions in a variety of genres; GuitarOne magazine and Guitar World both list him as among the fifty fastest guitarists of all time.
Buckethead most recently released the 2017 album “5-13 10 31” and announced several tour dates for the fall of 2017 to coincide with the release. He also announced plans to re-release some of his previous albums on vinyl, including one of his most popular works, Albino Slug.
