Chickenfoot was founded in 2008 by superstar musicians Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony, and Chad Smith. The men had collaborated together previously and often, as former members of a number of bands, including the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Van Halen.
After coming together to play, often just for fun, the four members decided to explore the possibility of forming an official band, and Chickenfoot was born. Although they had performed together in public before establishing Chickenfoot, Hagar, Satriani, Anthony, and Smith gave their first performance together as an official band in 2008 in Las Vegas. As Chickenfoot, the band performed a number of classic covers, including Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll.” One year later, their debut album, Chickenfoot, was released and the band launched a tour, beginning with a performance on the Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien.
Since that time, although the members of Chickenfoot continued to perform with other bands and fulfill obligations to other projects, whenever the members are available, they tour together or record as Chickenfoot. Following their debut album, which rose to the number four spot on the charts, the band released Chickenfoot III in 2011, which also hit the top ten on the charts. From these two albums, Chickenfoot has enjoyed three top forty singles: “Oh Yeah,” “Sexy Little Thing,” and “Big Foot.” The band has also released the singles “Soap on a Rope,” “Get It Up,” “My Kinda Girl,” “three and a Half Letters,” and “Different Devil.”
Most recently, Chickenfoot released the album LV, the band’s first live album, in 2012. The band has plans for additional album releases and tours in the near future.
