The Canadian alternative band Our Lady Peace was established in Toronto in the early 1990’s as part of the burgeoning grunge movement. The band was established by Mike Turner, who left the band after only three years but was integral in getting them started. After creating their first music video for the song “Out of Here,” Our Lady Peace began to garner some attention through the indie channels, and within a short period of time the band had signed with an entertainment group to further showcase their talents.
Our Lady Peace signed with Sony Music Canada in 1993 and released their debut album, Naveed, in the following year. Our Lady Peace began an extensive tour, opening up for such notable performers as Van Halen and Alanis Morisette. The album’s first single, “Starseed,” began to climb the charts, eventually arriving in the top ten on the US mainstream and alternative charts, in part due to the song’s inclusion in the blockbuster hit, Armageddon.
Since that time, Our Lady Peace has been a band with a steady history of successful albums, including: Clumsy (1997), Happiness… Is Not a Fish That You Can Catch (1999), Spiritual Machines (2000), Gravity (2002), Healthy in Paranoid Times (2005), Burn Burn (2009), and Curve (2012.) The albums spawned the top forty alternative hits: “Superman’s Dead,” “Clumsy,” “4 AM,” “One Man Army,” “Is Anybody Home?,” “Life,” “Somewhere Out There,” “Innocent,” “Where Are You?,” “All You Did Was Save My Life,” and “The End is Where We Begin.”
Our Lady Peace continues to perform, record and tour with the current lineup of Raine Maida, Duncan Coutts, and Steve Mazur. So far, the band has sold millions of albums internationally and earned four Juno Awards.
