The American R&B singer Jimmy Cozier grew up in a household filled with musical inspiration; his father, the senior Jimmy Cozier and a famous jazz sax player, encouraged young Jimmy to sing and perform as a young child. The family bolstered the younger Jimmy’s confidence and interest in music as a profession, and so it’s not a surprise that by the time he was a young man, he’d begun studying the craft and composition and writing his own music.
Jimmy harbored a love of composition and performance equally, and his earliest gigs were as both singer and songwriter for such notable performers as Sinead O’Connor and Mya. He also wrote music for Janet Jackson, including her hit single “Girlfriend,” on which the two collaborated to create the hit. Between work as a backup singer and songwriter for other artists, Jimmy Cozier continued to write his own music in the hopes of someday garnering his own deal.
That opportunity came shortly after the turn of the new millennium, when Jimmy’s talents caught the attention of Wyclef Jean and Clive Davis. Realizing the potential in the young talent, the two producers arranged for Jimmy Cozier’s first record deal with J Records. Within a year, Jimmy had released a self-titled debut which rose into the top twenty on the R&B charts, spawning the singles “She’s All I Got,” “So Much to Lose,” “U Got Them Goods,” and “You.”
Since that time, Jimmy Cozier has released the additional album Way of Life (2010), featuring the single “Tonight.” Cozier continues to perform and record, and his fans eagerly await his next album release, anticipated in the coming year.
