Queen Naija is an American singer born Queen Naija Bulls in 1995. She has a total of ten siblings among both her mother and father’s sides and was raised in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Under the name Queen Bulls, she entered the eighth season of American Idol. She went on to Hollywood but was soon eliminated and went back to work as a security guard. She continued her music on YouTube and had a successful channel with ex-husband Christopher Sails called “Chris and Queen.”
After their 2017 divorce Sails got full control over the channel. She then created her own channel right before the divorce and continued her career there, eventually gaining millions of subscribers. She covered many songs as well as working on original ones with other creators. Right before 2018 started, she released the song “Medicine,” and it garnered over two million views in the coming weeks and over five million within the month. Soon after that, she signed to Capitol Records and released her second single “Karma” that summer. She dropped her debut self-titled EP the next month and wowed listeners and critics alike.
Her debut EP charted as high as #26 on the Billboard 200 and hit #2 on the US R&B charts. “Medicine” and “Karma” were both certified Platinum, and her last single from the EP “Butterflies” was certified Gold. “Medicine” peaked at #45 on the Billboard Hot 100 while “Karma” peaked at #63.
Her debut album M.E.: Mixed Emotions is due out in 2020. The lead single, “Good Morning Text,” has done well critically and is expected to be followed by another track soon into the New Year.
