The legendary R&B group known as Boyz II Men was established in the 1980’s, by a group of Philadelphia classmates who found inspiration in the New Edition-style harmonies which were growing in popularity. Boyz II Men made its first public appearance in 1989 at a school party and shortly thereafter caught the attention of Motown Records. Within a short period of time, the quartet (comprised of Shawn Stockman, Wanya Morris, Michael McCary, and Nathan Morris) released their debut album, Cooleyhighharmony, in 1991.
Boyz II Men’s debut was a smash success, garnering a Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and reaching platinum status nine times over. The iconic single “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday” rose to the number one spot on the charts and set the stage for a career which would span into the new millennium. Over the years, Boyz II Men’s a capella style R&B has spawned the hit albums: II (1994), Evolution (1997), Nathan Michael Shawn Wanya (2000), Full Circle (2002), Thowback, Vol. 1 (2004), The Remedy (2006), Motown: A Journey Through Hitsville USA (2007), Love (2009), and Twenty (2011.) The albums have given audiences the chart-topping hits “End of the Road,” “I’ll Make Love to You,” “On Bended Knee,” “Water Runs Dry,” “4 Seasons of Loneliness,” and “A Song for Mama.”
Most recently, Boyz II Men received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2012, and in the following year they launched a tour alongside the groups 98 Degrees and New Kids on the Block. Boyz II Men remains one of the most enduring and popular of the R&B a capella groups of the era, and has plans for additional album releases and other projects in the near future.
