EarthGang Biography
Earthgang is an American rap group formed in 2008. The duo consists of Olu and WowGr8, known by their stage names Johnny Venus and Doctur Dot, respectively. The Atlanta rappers are also the cofounders of Spillage Village, a rap collective consisting of other Atlanta-based emcees. Earthgang formed in high school and released their first songs in 2010.
After a couple of years of local fame, the duo would start to see major publications such as Noisey and Complex take notice. The following years would see the beginnings of Spillage Village take place as Earthgang released their Torba EP with an appearance from Mac Miller. Tours with Top Dawg Entertainment and Dreamville artists gained them attention, and by 2017 they inked a deal with J. Cole’s label, Dreamville. Earthgang then released their first official studio album Mirrorland in 2019 to critical success and millions of streams.
Mirrorland would peak at #40 on the Billboard 200 chart and #20 on the Rap chart. Earthgang was also featured on Dreamville’s label project Revenge of the Dreamers III, which topped the Billboard 200 and was certified Platinum. The lead single from the project, “Down Bad,” featured the duo and was certified Gold while it peaked at #64 on the Hot 100 chart.
Earthgang is set to release the second official Spillage Village album entitled Spilligion in the fall of 2020.
