Mahalia Biography
Mahalia is an English singer and songwriter born Mahalia Burkmar in 1998. She was born and raised in Syston, United Kingdom and wrote her first song at the age of 8. By 13, Mahalia would ink her first major record deal and continue to pen songs over the summer breaks between classes. She released a series of EPs in 2012 and 2015, which received local attention.
Mahalia would then sign a record deal with Asylum and release her debut album Diary of Me in late 2016. She released a handful of singles with fellow UK artists such as Little Simz and Burna Boy until she released her EP Seasons in 2018. This gained Mahalia's critical acclaim and build hype for her sophomore album.
Mahalia worked with American rapper Russ on his 2018 album ZOO. Mahalia hit success in 2019 with the release of the song “Simmer” with Burna Boy. The song peaked at #46 on the UK charts and #34 on the UK R&B charts.
Mahalia recently released “What You Did” with singer Ella Mai and this peaked at #90 on the UK charts and helped Mahalia break into a US audience. Her second album, Love and Compromise, was released late in 2019 and peaked at #28 in the UK.
