The English singer/songwriter Cher Lloyd was born in 1993 in Malvern, Worcestershire. As a child of Romani descent, young Cher spent her earliest years traveling frequently throughout Wales with her family, and endured bullying and teasing from classmates for being a “gypsy.” Nevertheless, Cher found talent and solace in her school’s theater arts programs, where she studied acting and vocals.
In 2011, Cher Lloyd auditioned for the television show the X Factor and earned a competition spot, ultimately finishing the show in fourth place. Shortly after the conclusion of the shoe, Lloyd signed her first record deal with Syco Music and released her debut album, Sticks and Stones, in 2011. On the strength of the number one debut single, “Swagger Jagger,” which rose to the top of the UK Singles Charts, the album was an enormous success. Ultimately, Sticks and Stones also spawned the additional hit singles: “With Ur Love,” “Want U Back,” and “Oath.” During this time, Cher Lloyd also launched a modeling career, although her focus remained primarily on her music.
Cher Lloyd was certainly a rising star in the UK, but she had still to crack the international market in the United States. That changed in 2012, when she released her UK hit, “Want U Back,” which rose to number four on the iTunes charts and become one of the most downloaded songs of the week. A performance on America’s Got Talent followed, further bolstering Lloyd’s career in the United States, and an American version of her debut album, Sticks and Stones, followed shortly thereafter.
Most recently, Cher Lloyd served as a supporting act for Hot Chelle Rae and Demi Lovato on her Neon Lights Tour. Cher Lloyd’s latest album release, her sophomore effort, arrived in 2014. Sorry I’m Late’s first single release is the song “Sirens,” currently making its way up the charts.
