Jay Sean Biography
The performer known as Jay Sean was born Kamaljit Singh Jhooti in 1979 in Northwest London and grew up in the Southall area of the city. Jay Sean, as he would later become known, joined his first rap and hip hop groups while still a young teenager, but initially attended university with an intention of studying medicine. But in 2003, Jay released the single “Dance with You,” which rose into the top twenty on the UK Singles Charts, garnering the attention of Virgin Records. Jay left medical school to sign a deal with the label, and launch his career as a singer.
Jay Sean’s debut album, Me Against Myself, was a smash hit, spawning the singles “Stolen” and “Eyes On You,” both of which rose into the top ten on the charts. The album ultimately reached multi-platinum status internationally and set the stage for a career which has only grown over the last decade. Since Me Against Myself, Jay Sean has released the albums: My Own Way (2008), All or Nothing (2009), and Neon (2013.) The albums have given fans the hit singles: “Ride,” “Maybe,” “Stay,” “Tonight,” “Down,” “Do You Remember,” “Hit the Lights,” “I’m All Yours,” and “So High.” Jay Sean has also appeared as a featured artist on songs in collaboration with: Rishi Rich (“Dance With You”); Corbin Bleu (“Deal With It”); Lil Wayne (“I Made It (Cash Money Heroes)”); Mary J.
